| Final Reflections (December)- Thinking back over the past semester, what impact has this project on Global Warming had on you? What have you learned about yourself, your environment, your world? |

When I heard that we were going to be doing a project with people who lived half way around the world from us, I was very excited. This project has defenatly changed me. I'm not as selfish as i was before because I now know that some people have it way worse. I think more now. I worry about Global Warming, I didn't before. When we started this, I had no idea how much Global Warming affected everyone. In class we learned about forest elimination, that seems wrong to me. With out trees theres no oxygen, and with out oxygen theres no us. We learned about the three R's...Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle. I now do those three things. I learned that we need to take care of our Earth because we dont know how long it will be hear. I didnt think Global Warming was real when we started this. Everyone I talked to would say "Oh they have been saying that since my Grandma was a kid" and so on. I now belive that there is some Global Waming, but that we are speeding it up a little. People who say Global Warming is a hoax, well you may be right, and maybe Global Warming is fake but when you look at the big picture, it shure looks real to me. |
| Josh |
This project has impacted me by making me realize how badly we need to stop global warming from happening. I never thought that it was this bad, until I started this project. I have learned that everybody needs to work together to save the environment, or we won't have a world to live on. |

This project impacted me in many ways. I now know that I , myself am cause global warming. If I use too much water then I may be causing a little bit of drought through out the whole world. I also now know that my sister and my parents may be causing a little bit of global warming by polluting the air. Before this project I did not think that global warming even existed but now I know that it does and I am trying to not use so much water and other simle things like that. |
| November 5th Reflections - What are some of the facts on your environmental issue that are surprising you? What can we do to let the world know how to solve this problem? |
| Georgia |
Not much is suprising us however we are trying to find how or if you can monitor human contribution on changing weather patterns and the bigger issue in 'global warming'. We were aware of most of the major effects as we wrote in our persuasive paragraph below. Well we think a lot of ways to help our environment are out there (in the world) but many people act ignorant to this important issue, they just think someone else will act upon it and nothing gets done. So it's not that we need to make people aware because they already know we need to be able to make people "act" on the issue and make a difernence to our world. |
| Jessica |
We did this together. |
| Paige |
I didn't know that certain places in the world had such problems with drought, crops growing, and many issues like that. I didn't know that such problems as big of these were happening around the world. What really surprised me was that the polar caps are melting and many polar bears are dieing. I had no idea that dolphfins got hurt in the prosses of catching tuna. I could put up a website, or write an artical for a magazine, we could go talk on the news, or send out newletters. I think people should care more about our environment, because it is what we have to live with. This is a major issue! |
| Josh |
Some of the facts that really surprised me were how big the changes in weather were at certain places, such as northern Africa. It's growing seasons have changed, and they are running out of food. We can show the world the trouble that the people there are going through. |
| Katie |
I was really surprised at how much changes in weather patterns affect people. What also surprised me was how the changes in weather patterns can mess up so many things in people lives, like how huricanes can destroy lots of peoples houses. To let the world know about this problem I could put out something in a news paper or local paper. I could also ask to put on a commercial in the T.V. |

| What environmental issue should your group research? |
Change in Weather Patterns |
Changes In Weather Patterns... |
| Why do you think your research might help your communities? |
Are you in your right mind? Any person who can not see change in weather patterns as a major issue would have to be unhinged from reality. The effects of change in weather patterns will be unutterable. Apart from causing; DROUGHT, to a certain extent we are unable to use the land at all. FLOODING, more land we can’t use. RISE IN SEA LEVELS, people being forced out of their homes. How would you like this if it was you? NATURAL DIASTASTERS, killing people. What if it was your family?
The changes in weather patterns are caused by us polluting the Earth more and more. What goes out there is changing the weather patterns dramatically. These changes used to go by unnoticed, statistics tell us that we are putting profoundly more pollution into the air compared to 10 years ago. This is making major changes to our lives. We’ve had the all time highest natural diaster records in the last year. Is this how you want the future generations to grow up? With severe natural disasters occurring frequently. Do you want them to live on land which can’t be used? This will kill 300,000 people a year from the effects of global warming if we don’t take action now. If we don’t take action now we will have no food, jobs, family life, and recreation. Is this how you want to live?
Weather patterns are an immense concern in our world today.
Any rational person would see this is a BIG issue in today’s society.
The effects would be incomprehensible, causing economic recession among other various effects. Economic recession includes loss of jobs. Degradation of the land causes price of food to sky rocket as there is less usable land to produce food. It would have an astronomical effect, especially on farmers, but everybody in general would be affected. The effects of the change in weather patterns aren’t as inconsequential as you seem to think. Some people are happy for our generation and future generations to live in a world of constant natural diasters that would only become more regular. The aftermath of these disasters are huge, as you all should well know from Hurricane Katrina. Maybe this time it is not your town who suffers from a great loss from a natural disaster, but we all suffer from these changes in weather patterns with directly or indirectly. People who suffer directly from a natural disaster or change in weather pattens, may be injured, lose a family member or lose their house. This could force them onto the streets with others who have been affected. For weeks people who are affected by natural disasters are often left without clean fresh water shelter and food that we take for granted. Would you like this to be you? Everybody in some way or another is affected indirectly by natural disasters and change in weather patterns. We need to do something before this becomes a permanent part of our lives.

We think that this needs to change because it affects every thing. Kansas has had a lot of odd weather this year. For example one day it was 64 degrees farenhight and then the day after that, it was 95 degrees fareinhight. That it NOT normal, even for Kansas. This is not good because it affects crops, animals, us, and plants. Paige's mom got mad because she had a very expencive tree die. Also the wind will blow 2 days straight and then not for 5 days.
(10/15/2007)
umm...no we are not out of our mind. Changes in weather patterns are important to us also. We can tell that this issue is very important to you. But you should know that this is also a problem for us. We think that we are on "the same page" as you, but we still have different ideas of why. We understand that you are in a very bad drought but we just recently got out of a drought. Last night we had our first "actual" rain since July. We understand the importance of this too. Our group feels bad about your shower issue as we take 25 minute showers at the least. Sorry about that.

From Mrs. Smoke - Georgia and Jessica- Thank you for posting your response today. I'm certain that your Kansas partners will favor your insight to the research. I'll be adding more links to the weather pattern page soon.
PS - We loved your photostory. :)

From Mrs Baird... I can see from all of you that you understand the seriousness of the current changes in weather patterns. It seems that you all have had personal experiences and have also seen from afar how changes in weather patterns can affect whole communities. I'm looking forward to reading more when you formulate your arguments |
| Week 1 Reflections - What are two things that surprised you this week and one thing you are looking forward to learning from your partners? |
| *Georgia* |
This week I was quite surprised when we were watching ‘An Inconvenient Truth’ that if a mass of ice the same size as Greenland melts that a lot of the world will become submerged. I also didn’t realise the amount of things that contributed to global warming and the extent of some of the problems and how many effects it can have. I am interested to find out if all the things referred to in the video will happen to Australia and if Australia is in the same circumstance or if it is a bit different. |
| *Jess* |
This week when we watched an inconvenient truth I was shocked at how greater effect little things can have and how much temperature is changing. The pictures and graphs that they used in the movie really helped to show the effect of what was happening. I want to find out more about the American way of life.

Greenland and Antarctica are melting. That if Greenland and Antarctica melt, the land will become smaller and the water would go up 20 feet. We should pick up trash, use energy efficent cars and lightbulbs. |
| Josh |
How much the CO2 levels went up in the past couple of years. How much ice is melting. We can all buy hybrid cars and tell other people to do the same. We could use energy efficient lightbulbs. We need to stop Greenland's ice from melting. |
| Katie |
I was surprised at how much the earth will change if we keep on doing what we're doing. How much the CO2 levels are rising. We can plant more trees and use energy efficient light bulbs. |
