Welcome Caitlin and Jess D. from Wedderburn and Sarah, Kalie, and Paityn from Andale. This is your page to share and work in.

You will also have your own individual page where you can post your environmental footprint and other ideas as we go along.

Final Reflection (December) - Thinking back over the past semester, what impact has this project on Global Warming had on you? What have you learned about yourself, your environment, your world?
 Caitlin
Jess
*Sarah*  After the past semester I've realized that global warming is a really BIG problem and what it can cause. During this project I've learned that I should recycle and try not to pollute the Earth. Global warming effects the environment by not recycling paper instead of cutting down trees and lots of other bad things. It effects the world by lots and lots of terrible things.
Kalie:  This project affected me in 2 ways. First of all it made me aware of what is happening to the world that I am living in. Another thing is that it got me to know that there are some things that people can do to stop what is happening. I learned that anybody can help to stop pollution by going and picking up trash. Also that people are making cars to help stop air pollution.
Paityn:☺  This whole project has affected me in a little way because I have already been aware of the environment and my family recycles. I've also already donated to Live Green. But I am very glad we had this project to inform unaware students, and unaware people about the environment. I really care about the environment  and donate, trying to take action myself. I have been in a few trash pickup  groups and will always do what I can to avoid global warming..

November 5th Reflections - What are some of the facts on your environmental issue that are surprising you?  What can we do to let the world know how to solve this problem?
 Caitlin
Jess
*Sarah*  I was  unaware of the fact that the CO2 created such a severe problem to our civilization / world. We also should make changes to try and stop CO2 levels because it is hurting our society.
.:Kalie:.  I was unaware of how bad rising in CO2 levels are so bad. This project has tought me so much about it. At the beginning of this project I didn't even know what CO2 was. The fact that surprised me the most is how high the CO2 levels have gone up. I think we could get the society more aware of what we are doing to the earth. I think more schools should do projects like this so that more kids can learn about the issues.
Paityn:☺  I was surprised of how much CO2 levels are affecting our day-to-day life, and how it seems like the majority of people are ignorant and don't care about this situation.....We could solve this problem by spreading the word of Global Warming, showing people the affect of "Global Warning" and the result it will have on us.

Question to group members in both schools

Wedderburn Response

Andale Response

What environmental issue should your group research?

 Save the polar bears...

 Air Pollution
Why do you think your research might help your communities?

Any thinking person would know the melting of the glaciers is affecting the world. The ice that has been melted has gone into the sea. Now sea levels are higher causing some polar bears and other animals to drown. Because of this there is less land for them to stop and have a break. The rising of the co2 is causing global warming, and the Earth is getting hotter. This change in the weather pattern is the reason why the glaciers are melting and leading the polar bears forward to extinction. The polar bears’ and other animals’ habitats are slowly disappearing into the water. We need to help the polar bears and other animals to have a habitat that will stay there for a while instead of it melting away. A small thing can help save the animals from extinction. By Caitlin

If you think that air pollution is not a big problem in the state of Kansas, then you are full of inhumanity because it obviously is. Air pollution causes people to have cardiovascular diseases. Some causes of air pollution are people smoking, the burning of fossil fuel, forest fires, volcanoes, garbage, auto exhaust, factory smokestacks, and burning coal. We around here do a lot of those things. It is mandatory that we take action to help the environment now. Some things we can do to effectuate this problem are: drive more effecient vehicles, like hybrids. We can also stop smoking, and close down all power plant. We hope you take this problem as seriously as we do.

Hi Sarah, Kalie, Paitlyn, Caitlin and Jess,

You have chosen very different topics and both are very important issues that need to be considered.  It may be tricky for you to come to an agreement so Mrs Smoke's suggestion for rating which issue you would be keen to research is really important. I'm looking forward to seeing what you think...Mrs Baird

Caitlin - Question for you:  On a scale of 1-5 (1 being low and 5 being high) how interested would you be in researching air pollution?

Caitlin- I think that i would be a 3 because I dont really care if I do research air pollution or not.... lol.... From Caitlin

Caitlin and Jess here... We are ok to research CO2 levels... cya

Sarah, Kalie, and Paityn - Question for you:  On a scale of 1-5 (1 being low and 5 being high) how interested would you be in researching the melting of the polar ice caps?

Although we think polar bears are cool and melting ice caps are important, we rate it a 2 because we are in the middle of the United States so it doesn't effect us directly. Since CO2 levels cause both Air pollution and melting ice caps we could research that if you wanted to.

Week 1 Reflections - What are two things that surprised you this week and one thing you are looking forward to learning from your partners?
Caitlin        On the 22nd of August our year eight class watched An inconvenient truth. The thing that most concerned me was the melting countries e.g Green land and Antarctica. And how all the water from the ice is goind to cover some of the cites in America.
Jess  I thought it was most suprising to me that the earth was getting warmer by global warming and that the ice was melting so that the polar bears are starting to die because they cant find any more ice. sad!
Sarah  I was surprised when he said that global warming is causing the ice to melt in Antarctica and how he said all that water in the oceans will build up and can flood or overfill all the countries.  To make a difference we should stop burning so many things.
Kalie  That the CO2 levels will be so high in 50 years.  How land could be underwater if South Antarctica or Greenland melts.  I think we could plant more trees and use energy efficient light bulbs.
