Thinking back over the past semester, what impact has this project on Global Warming had on you? What have you learned about yourself, your environment, your world?

Welcome Tara and Ashleigh from Wedderburn and Josie, Jessica, and Olivia from Andale. This is your page to share and work in.

You will also have your own individual page where you can post your environmental footprint and other ideas as we go along.

Final Reflections (December)- Thinking back over the past semester, what impact has this project on Global Warming had on you? What have you learned about yourself, your environment, your world?
Tara

Ashleigh
☺Josie☺  This project has made me worry more about what our planet's going to be like when I'm 60, or 80.  It's made me want to recycle, and turn off the running faucet while I'm brushing my teeth, things I've never actually cared for before we ever started this project.    But, now that I realize how horrible out planet could turn out , I see that now I need to take more responsiblity for how I treat the environment, and make it better for people, now, and people to come.  I see now that it's going to take more than myself to change the planet,  but even, with little acts of turning off the lights when they're not needed can help.
~Jessica~  Over the semester this project has impacted me by taking better care of our environment. I have learned that I polluted alot more than I need to and that I waste alot of water. I have also learned that the environment has been polluted and there has been wasted electricity.
♥Olivia♥   This project on global warming has made me think that what we are doing everyday is killing the world. What I have learned about myself is that I am changing the way I live to help stop global warming. I am taking shorter showers, using less energy, and walking or carpooling a lot more. What I have learned about the world is that there is only one world and if we don't try to stop global warming, it will disappear. Our World is precious and don't kill it.

November 5th Reflections - What are some of the facts on your environmental issue that are surprising you?  What can we do to let the world know how to solve this problem?
Tara

The facts that we have found regarding were really surprising. We didn't realise the true extent of this alarming issue. We have also learnt to accept other peoples opinion even though we may not agree with it. We have learnt to listen to other peoples perspetives and use them positively in our work. We are interested in learning how change in weather patterns adds to global warming.

The facts or information that surprised us most were also the daramitic changes in the temperatures. There are many things that we can do to stop this: have shorter showers, use less cars less etc.

Ashleigh
☺Josie☺  Some facts on our environmental issue that was surprising to me were how much the climate temperatures changed, and how they are today compared to last year.  We can do simple things like saving water, and using the bus or walking to school to help prevent dramatic climate changes.
~Jessica~  Facts on our enviormental issue that surprised me the most was that the change in temperatures. We could start walking more instead of driving to places.
♥Olivia♥   A fact on our environmental issue that surprised me was how our everyday activities have risen the carbon dioxide levels. We can ride our bikes or car pool to places and drive better cars for the environment, and use energy efficient appliances to help solve this problem.♥

Question to group members in both schools

Wedderburn Response

Andale Response

What environmental issue should your group research?

 Drought

 change in weather patterns
Why do you think your research might help your communities?

Drought is a major issue in many farming communities. It doesn’t take a person with five or six years of university experience to figure out that this problem is major. There are many small farming families that have to pack up, and leave homes and farms that have been in their family for many generations. You may think that there isn’t anything that you can do solve this issue but there is:

Shorten your shower by a couple of minutes and time it.

Water your garden less often and reuse water from your washing machine to do it.

This issue will take time and planning to conquer but together we can!

Ashleigh Holt

Drought is a major issue in our community and our world. It is evidential that the amount water and fertile soil within countries is decreasing and if you cannot see this. Any logical person in today’s society would realise that many people are severely affected by drought which its only getting worse. Innocent animals are dying due to a lack of water. Farming communities are losing money as they aren’t able to produce enough grain and cereal crops as they need in order to get an efficient income. It is time to work not only as a community, not only as a country, but as nation that cares about our world, to conquer this issue.

Tara Bewley

Our issue is change in weather patterns.  We picked this because we are affected by it.  We are in the month of October and our usual tempature is 60-70 degrees F during the day, this week it has been up to the 90's and 80 degrees F during the day, and at night it has dropped down to 48 degrees.  That ain't normal.  We go to football games and during this time of year we should be wearing sweatshirts and jeans, but we are currently wearing shorts and t-shirts.

In June it was flooding here, but in Georgia they were in drought.  These are not normal weather patterns for Kansas.  For winter we are not expecting much snow :-(.  Like we did ten years ago, we expected a white christmas.  But now, we don't get are hopes up.  These are the reasons why we are concerned about weather patterns in Kansas.

I we rate it about a 2. We believe that it is a fair issue but drought is one issue that is caused by change in weather patterns and it would be benificial to our learning because we could learn more by studying one aspect.

Question for you:  On a scale of 1-5 (1 being low and 5 being high) how interested would you be in researching drought?

We rate your issue 3.  We think that instead of studying just drought, we could study all the issues of weather patterns, which would include, flooding, storm, snow fall, DROUGHT, ect.

Week 1 Reflections - What are two things that surprised you this week and one thing you are looking forward to learning from your partners?
Tara  The other day we watched an Inconvenient Truth.

It was really surprising to see all of the changes that could occur to the world if global warming continues at the same rate as what it is now and. What surprised me a lot was the amount of people and animals that would be affected by this. For example the polar bears drowning was a fact that reached out to us. Also that whole country could be submerged by water and the central town of Wedderburn might just be on the beach.

Also the increasing temperature and less rainfall was a concern to us as Ashleigh lives on a farm. But we have run out of time so we have to go Bye.

Ashleigh

( we did our reflection together)
Josie  The pictures from 1970 compared to now.  How high the heat climate would be in 50 years.  We should plant more trees, try and ride on the bus or bike to school and use energy efficient light bulbs.
Jessica  That the earth is really that bad.  That a lot of glaciers are melting.  That the CO2 levels are getting worse and worse.  We could ride the bus to school or walk to help the environment.
Olivia  If Greenland goes under the oceans will rise 20ft and some of Florida will go under.  That our everyday life is raising the C02 levels.  We can plant more trees and encourage people ot use energy efficient light bulbs.
